Celebrating Growth and Learning at Wagstaff - #NAW2024
James Kettle: My Apprenticeship Journey at Wagstaff
It's been an incredible 18 months filled with learning and growth. I'm thrilled to share an update on my apprenticeship journey at Wagstaff, especially during National Apprenticeship Week and the exciting prospects for the future.
1. Why an Apprenticeship?
As explained in my previous interview post, my passion for business administration led me to completing a Level 2 qualification in my spare time while working as a cleaner. The desire to delve deeper into the world of business administration prompted me to seek an apprenticeship. The enthusiastic support I received from from family and friends fuelled led me to finding the perfect fit – Wagstaff.

2. Choosing Wagstaff: A Game-Changer
Before Wagstaff, I had a brief stint with another employer where the support for my apprenticeship journey was lacking. The decision to move to Wagstaff turned out to be a game-changer. Over the past 18 months, I've not only gained extensive knowledge while studying for my Level 3 qualification in Business Administration but have also become an integral part of the Bid team.
3. What's so special about Wagstaff?
Working at Wagstaff is an adventure of constant learning. Each week brings something new – whether it's exploring different parts of the country to meet suppliers and visit client sites or delving deeper into the intricacies of the bid team. The exposure to industry demands, products, quality standards, suppliers, clients, competitors, and various sectors we cater to has been invaluable.

A huge shoutout to my incredible team, Lianne and Hannah, who have been my pillars of support. Their guidance and assistance have made every challenge more manageable. Connecting face-to-face during the Wagstaff Christmas conference at Lumley Castle and again later at our Summer Conference Boat Trip in London added a personal touch to our professional relationship and the opportunity to meet-up with colleagues from other regional offices and HQ.
4. Why Wagstaff for Apprentices?

To those considering an apprenticeship at Wagstaff, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The kindness and helpfulness of the people here are unparalleled. The knowledge I've gained in the last 18 months has been second to none, and I'm eagerly anticipating the exciting journey that 2024 has in store for me.
5. Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
As I approach the end of my apprenticeship, the anticipation for my End Point Assessment in March is building. My final project focuses on enhancing the Bid Process to increase our success rate on bids. None of this would have been possible without the incredible support from the Bid Team (Lianne & Hannah) and Tyne North Training, who have gone above and beyond to aid my apprenticeship journey.
Looking forward, my plan is to continue my journey with Wagstaff, progressing into Bid Writing. I aim to branch out into supply chain management, exploring opportunities for growth and development. Online courses and events, such as APMP, will be instrumental in expanding my insights and skills.
Here's to the exciting future that lies ahead!
