Going Green in your Workplace – How to Cultivate Biophilic Elements in Shared Spaces
Biophilic design is a trend that is rapidly transforming office spaces worldwide. The term ‘biophilic’ comes from ‘biophilia’, meaning a love of life or living systems. Biophilic design aims to connect people and nature within built environments by incorporating elements found in the natural world to improve the wellbeing of who engage with the space.
By bringing natural light, plants, views of the outdoors, natural materials, and other organic elements into indoor spaces, biophilic design fulfils this longing for contact with the natural world. Studies show biophilic offices enhance productivity, creativity, well-being, and employee satisfaction.
From living walls to circadian lighting, biophilic elements offer an impactful way to increase workspaces’ natural feel and cultivate a connection between employees and their surroundings. The result is offices that uplift, inspire, and promote employee health

Industrial style interiors take existing structures and redesign them for a modern workflow whilst preserving their utilitarian elements. They pay homage to the stripped-down look of factories and warehouses, from places like New York. Features such as concrete floors and metal ductwork that other design styles would work to hide, are fully embraced and accentuated in industrial interiors. This is form met with function for the modern workforce.

Industrial interior design is all about embracing the raw and the tactile. It is a style that does not shy away from showing off the bones of a building. These elements bring an authentic, rugged atmosphere to the space, with surfaces that are tactile and multi-textured – think exposed concrete, weathered wood, and corrugated metal. Most of all, materials show their origins. Rough-hewn beams still bear saw marks and brickwork appears salvaged.
